Hi, I'm Ian. I am currently a Software Engineer for Stripe. I used to work for Amazon, in the Selling Partner Services org, where I developed features to help third party sellers make more money. Previously I worked for TripAdvisor, developing full stack features for the home page and the profile pages.

  • Lead the design and implementation of our latest product, the ASIN Growth Optimizer. Organized and delegated tasks to a team of engineers; collaborated with external teams and stakeholders to launch the product.
  • Redesigned and implemented a real-time orders processing and aggregation system on AWS. This system processes all worldwide Amazon orders in real-time, reducing SLA from 15 minutes to 1 minute and reduced data delays from up to 10 hours to 0. Furthermore the new system spends 50% less on infrastructure costs and causes fewer operational tickets.
  • Designed and led implementation for a new product to surface recommendations to sellers for product improvement actions
  • Optimized Big Data pipeline to reduce operational load by 30% and infrastructure costs by 30%
  • Rewrote a legacy web app using React and new server-side framework

TripAdvisor – Software Engineer

Sept 2017 - July 2019

Coming back to TripAdvisor as a full time engineer, I was a part of the Core Experience team. I worked in a cross functional capacity, collaborating with designers and product managers to develop features for TripAdvisor's 2018 social relaunch. My main focus was on the home page and profile pages. I used Java to develop the API for the Unified Inbox, React on the front end to develop customer facing features on those pages, and collaborated with the platform team to improve time-to-interactive of those pages.

TripAdvisor – Software Engineering Intern

May 2016 - August 2016

At TripAdvisor, I worked on the sales developer team. I developed custom full-stack solutions to meet clients' advertising needs and increased revenue. Also I collaborated with product managers of various teams to measure and improve the effectiveness of ads by leveraging insightful analytics. Our team also used a variety of tools to enhance the quality of our code, including static analysis software and code reviews.

Mimir Insights – Front End Developer

I designed, developed and maintained a front end web application using a variety of technologies including Django and AngularJS. I worked with other students at Tufts University to rapidly deploy new features to clients every week. In addition, I developed a Salesforce integrations platform for the product which brings information from our service to Salesforce.com.

For the Consortium for the Advancement of Hydrological Sciences, I worked as an intern for the summer to create a workflow to allow the hydrological researchers to quickly publish information to collaborators.
